ATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE MAP

The Atlantic Slave Trade is one of the most significant events in world history.  It began in the 16th century and saw the major European nations transport over 12 million slaves from the western shores of Africa to European colonies in the New World.  In fact, African slaves ended up arriving in regions all across North America, South America and the Caribbean.  Due to the mass migration of people that occurred as a result of the Atlantic Slave Trade, it is considered to be a transformative event in world history.  The Atlantic Slave Trade is often discussed alongside other major historical events, including: Trade Triangle, slavery in the United States and the Abolitionist Movement.
