The Thirteen Colonies refers to the early time period of the United States. At the time, the United States was a series of thirteen British Colonies that historians divide into the Northern, Middle and Southern colonies. The settlers of the colonies eventually revolted against British rule and fought for their independence as part of the American Revolution.
